Sprite of the Week: the humble crackledome

Welcome to Sprite of the Week! Here, I will be sharing a sprite every week; some sprites are implemented in-game, and some are perhaps on the way to being implemented.

A quiet desert landscape

For our first sprite, I present to you – the crackledome! Crackledomes are programmatically considered “low growers” – smaller plants that characters can move through as if they were not there. While they do not obstruct or slow down motion, they do make a fun little shaking animation when you pass through them.

Crackledomes are found in desert environments. They spend most of their lives looking dry and not-fun-to-sit-on; I imagine they like it that way. Their name comes from the fact that they are crispy looking and grow in a roughly hemispheric shape. There are two different sprites representing crackledomes, but you have to look pretty close to notice the difference. I’ll wait while you try to find the differences in the image above 😄.

Here’s a video of how crackledomes react to an arborian moving through them:

Look at them shimmy!

Stay tuned for more sprites every week!
