Site Redesign

Hello, Arborland’s solo developer here. It has certainly been a while since my last blog post! For quite a while in 2022, I was very busy with my day job, which ate into my free time. But development of Arborlands has been back on track in 2023. More about that in future posts.

For a while, I was not happy with the look of the site which has made me wary to update and send traffic to it. But now I’m feeling much better. If you have visited in the past, you’ll notice that the site has a new color scheme and front page.

I felt it was important to have a description of the game’s main concept, so now the front page has an “in a nutshell” section that explains the game in 4 quick steps:

  1. Inhabit – Find a forest and make it your home. Grow your community and train professional bands of Arborins called troops.
  2. Explore – Send your troops to Roam far and wide in a vibrant 2D environment. Encounter other species, investigate natural oddities, and research new advancements to improve the lives of your Arborins.
  3. Survive – Nature is a dangerous place. Parasites, predators, and opportunists stand ready to take advantage of your every misfortune! Use vigilance, planning, force, and cooperation to ensure your community’s future.
  4. Thrive – Upgrade your troops, research new advancements, and find new lands to inhabit. Add habitat improvements that increase your community’s health, happiness, and size. Live in balance with your ecosystem or dominate nature for your own benefit.

I hope you like the new theme. Keep in mind that much like the game itself, the site is also a work in progress. I will be adding more flourish and flavor as the project progresses. And of course, I will add screenshots of actual gameplay as the game’s graphics progress.

Want to see the latest? I have been sharing mini dev vlogs on YouTube. You can subscribe to Arborlands there to get the most recent snippets of development; I’m planning on multiple updates a week. I will also post the videos here on the site.

Thanks for reading!
